Car seats

  • How do I fit 3 car seats in a car?

To fit three car seats in your vehicle, make sure you have three properly installed seatbelt or ISOFIX systems.

Before installing the seats or even buying them:
    Measure your rear seat width.
Check the width of the car seats to ensure all three will fit comfortably side by side.

If some children are old enough to use a booster seat instead of a full car seat, it saves space and makes it easier to fit three seats across the back.

  • Can a car seat be installed in the front?

In the UK, a child may travel in the front seat only in specific cases:
The child is in a rear-facing seat and the passenger airbag is disabled.
The vehicle has only two seats or no rear seatbelts.
Children under 12 years old or less than 135 cm tall must travel in a suitable child restraint in the rear of the car.

  • When should I move my baby from the carrycot (“egg”) to a car seat?

Babies should move to a car seat before reaching the maximum height limit of the carrycot.
Check the top of the baby’s head against the top of the carrycot.
If the baby’s head touches the top, it’s time to move them to a car seat.

  • Which car seat is right for a 3-year-old?

Car seat choice depends on the child’s size, not age:

    Group 0+: birth – 13 kg (≈29 lbs)
    Group 1: 9 – 18 kg (≈20–40 lbs)
    Group 2: 15 – 25 kg (≈33–55 lbs)
    Group 3: 22 – 36 kg (≈48–79 lbs)

  • When should I change a car seat?

Typically, a child will use two car seats as they grow:
    Infant carrier for newborns
Convertible car seat or booster for older children

    Signs it’s time to change:
The child feels cramped in the seat
The harness is too tight even on the loosest setting
The child’s head extends above the top of the seat

  • How do I clean a car seat?

Vacuum the seat, straps, and folds to remove crumbs and dust
Remove the cover (if removable) and wash with warm water and mild soap
A solution of 50 cl white vinegar, 20 cl water, and a little dish soap can remove stains

  • How do I keep my baby warm in a car seat?

Remove bulky coats before strapping the baby in for safety
Cover with a suitable car seat footmuff, blanket, or a coat turned inside out

  • How do I install a car seat with a seatbelt?

Check the car seat manual as installation can vary by model

Ensure the seatbelt is not twisted and is tightened at every stage
Make sure no objects are behind the seat

  • When can I remove the infant insert?

    Suitable for newborns

You can remove at around 4 months or when the baby is 60 cm (23.6 inches) and can hold their head upright comfortably

  • Can a car seat go in the middle?

Yes, the rear middle seat is often the safest place: furthest from airbags and other impacts
Ensure the seatbelt or ISOFIX is secure and does not interfere with the child

Pushchairs

  • At what age can a buggy (umbrella stroller) be used?

Lightweight, compact, and easy to handle, the umbrella stroller is perfect for moving around with your baby!
Recommended from 12 months, when the child can sit up independently.
Unlike traditional prams, the child sits facing forward in this type of stroller.

  • Which stroller is best for a newborn?

For a newborn, a 3-in-1 stroller is ideal:
Functions as a stroller, car seat, or carrycot
Allows you to transfer your baby quickly from the car to the stroller
Some models are evolutive, suitable up to 3 years old

  • When should I move my baby from the carrycot (“egg”) to the stroller?

From 4–5 months, once the baby can hold their head up
Once the baby can sit independently, you can switch to a reclining or adjustable seat on the stroller chassis
There is no strict age; it depends on the baby’s readiness to sit up

  • How do I clean a stroller rain cover?

Regular cleaning: wipe with a sponge and mild dish soap
Tough stains: use a cloth dampened with white vinegar
Fabric covers: machine washable according to the label instructions

  • How do I inflate a stroller wheel?

Most strollers come with a manual pump.
If not, a bicycle pump can be used if compatible with the valve.
Some wheels have car-style valves, which can be inflated at a petrol station or with a suitable pump!

  • Can I take a stroller on a plane?

    Yes, you can:
Umbrella or compact strollers can usually be taken as cabin baggage.
Larger strollers must be checked in as hold luggage.
Airline rules vary, so always check with your carrier before travel.

  • How do I repair a stroller wheel?

There are two main types of wheels:
Pneumatic (air-filled): can be inflated like a bike or car tyre
Non-pneumatic (solid): may require a repair kit or patch kit

  • Which stroller is the most compact?

Umbrella strollers are generally the most compact.
The baby is safely secured with harnesses or a safety bar.
Easy to fold in a few steps, saving space in the car boot or at home.

Highchairs

  • Which high chair should I choose?

There are several types of high chairs to suit different needs:

Evolutive high chairs – grow with your child over several years
Wooden high chairs – stylish and environmentally friendly
Foldable high chairs – compact, easy to store, and fits in a car boot

Choose the one that best fits your daily routine and home space.

  • At what age can a baby use a high chair?

Babies can start using a high chair once they can sit up unaided, usually around 6–8 months.
For safety, ensure the chair has a between-the-legs harness.
For added comfort, use a high chair cushion to provide a secure seat and prevent slipping.

  • How do I cover a high chair?

You can sew a custom cover or use a ready-made cushion.
Choose wipe-clean oilcloth or machine-washable cotton, depending on your needs.
Pick the material according to cleaning convenience and comfort.

  • When should a high chair be used?

Mainly for feeding, but it can also be a play area while you cook.
Keeps the baby safely in one place, giving you hands-free supervision.
Add toys, books, or blocks to keep the baby entertained.

  • How do I fasten a high chair harness?

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions as harness installation varies by model.
Ensure the harness is snug but not too tight, securing the baby safely.

  • How do I fold a high chair?

    Remove the tray
Stand behind the chair and unlock the safety mechanism (usually on both sides, via clips or buttons)
Fold the chair in two and secure it in the folded position

  • How do I clean a high chair?

Wipe the tray after each meal
Use a small vacuum for crumbs
Clean straps and cushions with a sponge and mild dish soap

  • High chair vs table chair

High chairs are larger and ideal for daily use at home
Table chairs are compact, portable, and suitable for small spaces or travel
Choose depending on available space and how often you will use it

  • When should I switch from a high chair to a booster seat?

Booster seats let your child sit more freely and comfortably
Recommended around 12 months, when the child can sit upright unassisted
Most regular chairs can then be adapted for use with a booster

  • Which high chair is best for twins?

You can choose two high chairs, two table chairs, or one at a time, depending on your family routine and space

Baby bottles

  • How many bottles should I buy?

If you are exclusively bottle-feeding, you will need around 8 bottles of 250ml each, assuming your baby feeds every 3 hours.
If you are breastfeeding, 3 or 4 bottles are usually sufficient.
The exact number depends on your baby’s age, daily intake, type of feeding, and care routine.

  • How many bottles per day?

Babies usually drink 4–8 bottles in 24 hours, depending on age and weight.
In the first weeks, offer 6–8 bottles in 24 hours, gradually reducing the number as your baby grows.

  • How long between feeds?

A baby’s digestion takes about 1œ hours, so for smaller bottles in the early months, feeds are typically 2–3 hours apart.
For larger bottles, this can increase to 3–4 hours.
Ultimately, the interval depends on your baby’s natural rhythm.

  • When should a baby use a high chair?

High chairs are not just for feeding. They can also be a safe place for play while you prepare meals.
Activities at the high chair allow you to keep your baby in one place, supervise easily, and have your hands free.
Add a book, soft toy, or blocks for entertainment.

  • How do I feed my baby with a bottle?

Hold your baby in your arms, using a support pillow if needed.
Tilt the bottle slightly to keep the teat full of milk, preventing the baby from swallowing air.
To help your baby develop visual skills, alternate sides during feeding.

  • How do I sterilise a bottle?

    Wash bottles thoroughly first.
Boil bottles in water for 15 minutes, or use a microwave or electric steriliser.
Bottles can also be cleaned in a dishwasher if suitable.

  • How do I get a breastfed baby to accept a bottle?

Avoid mixed feeding before the baby is at least 1 month old.
Introduce the bottle gradually, replacing one breastfeeding session at a time.
If the baby accepts it, gradually replace additional feeds.

  • When should I increase the bottle amount?

Increase the amount when your baby empties the bottle completely.
Signs your baby is hungry include:
    Faster or irregular breathing
    Eye movement under eyelids
    Stretching arms and legs
    Hand-to-mouth movements

  • How should I warm a bottle?

Avoid microwaving; use a bottle warmer or a warm water bath.
Shake the bottle to evenly distribute heat and test the temperature on the inside of your wrist.
Warmed bottles should be used within 30 minutes.

  • Should I wake my baby to feed?

No, do not wake your baby.
If hungry, your baby will signal readiness.
Typically, babies may go 4–5 hours between feeds in the early months.

  • When should I stop night feeds?

There’s no set age. Follow your baby’s needs and cues, ensuring they remain healthy.
You may try substituting milk or reducing night feeds gradually. If unsuccessful, try again another day.

Mattresses

  • Which mattress should I choose for my baby?

For maximum safety, the mattress should be firm, with a density of around 18–23 kg/m³ (≈1.12–1.44 lbs/ft³).
Choose a removable and machine-washable cover for hygiene and comfort.
Thickness is less important for babies; a mattress between 10–13 cm (≈4–5 inches) is suitable.

  • How to elevate a baby mattress?

Babies should normally sleep on their back, without pillows or heavy blankets.
If your baby seems uncomfortable, you can:
Place a rolled-up towel under the mattress to create a slight incline.
Use an inclined wedge under the fitted sheet, positioning the thinner side under the shoulders.

  • Why choose a firm mattress for babies?

A firm mattress supports the baby’s spine and overall development.
Babies cannot lift their heads or move around much; a firm base provides better support.

  • Should I use a mattress protector?

Yes. A protector prevents stains from spills, accidents, or sweat, keeping the mattress hygienic and comfortable.

  • How to clean a baby mattress?

    Mix:
    1 litre of white vinegar
    400 ml hot water
    8 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid
Dip a cloth in the solution, wring it out, and scrub the mattress, focusing on stains.
Wipe with a damp sponge to remove residue.

  • When should I replace the baby mattress?

Replace the mattress if you notice:
    Sagging or indentations
    Holes or uneven surfaces
    Skin allergies or reactions
Or when upgrading to a larger bed

  • Which mattress should I choose for toddlers?

Transition from a baby mattress usually occurs around 2–3 years old.
Avoid memory foam or very soft mattresses; these are not firm enough for healthy growth.
    Recommended density: 30–40 kg/m³
    Recommended thickness: 15–20 cm

  • Mattress size guide:

For toddlers up to 3 years, a firm mattress is ideal.
Around 6 years old, a slightly softer mattress is acceptable.
    Sizes:
    90×140 cm (≈35 × 55 inches) for a small bed or evolutionary cot-bed
    90×190 cm (≈35 × 75 inches) for a single bed

Beds

  • How to get your child to sleep in their own bed?

Bedtime can cause anxiety in some children. If your child struggles to fall asleep in their own bed, comfort them and consider a nightlight if they are afraid of the dark.
Initially, you can stay in the room until they fall asleep. If they get up, gently guide them back to their bed and reassure them.

  • Why does a child wet the bed?

Bedwetting is common between 5–10 years old. Stay calm and try to understand the cause.
Stress is often a factor: new sibling, starting school, etc.
Avoid making the child feel guilty; maintain open communication and reassurance.

  • When should a child move to a big bed?

Typically between 1œ and 3 years old.
Use a toddler bed or single bed.
Place the new bed in the same spot as the old one and continue bedtime rituals to maintain familiarity.

  • Which size bed should I choose for my child?

    Toddler bed / Evolutive bed: 90×140 cm (≈35 × 55 inches)
    Single bed: 90×190 cm (≈35 × 75 inches) or 90×200 cm (≈35 × 79 inches)
    Double bed: 140×190 cm (≈55 × 75 inches) or 140×200 cm (≈55 × 79 inches)
The bigger the child, the more space they need.

  • How to help a baby fall asleep in their own bed?

Follow consistent bedtime rituals: bath, pajamas, storytime, dim light.
After a feed (breast or bottle), carefully place the baby in their bed.
Over time, the baby learns that sleep happens in their own bed, not in your arms.

  • When should I change the baby’s bed?

Usually between 1œ and 3 years old, depending on the child’s development:
    They climb the crib rails
Need to use the toilet independently at night
    Require more space
A new sibling arrives and the crib is needed

  • How to help the baby sleep alone?

Keep bedtime routines consistent, same order, every night.
Hygiene, pajamas, story, cuddles, and a nightlight create a secure and comforting environment.

  • When should I replace the baby mattress?

    Signs the mattress needs changing:
    Sagging or uneven spots
    Holes or bumps
    Allergic reactions on skin
Also, replace when moving to a bigger bed, adapting to the new size.

  • How to settle the baby in the bed?

Use a firm mattress with a fitted sheet.
Do not use nursing pillows, nest beds, or soft items under the baby, these are not safe.

  • Do I need a crib bumper?

    Not necessary.
It can be cute, but may cause head bumps or trapped hands. Only use if your child moves around a lot at night.

  • When should the baby’s bed be lowered?

Usually around 8 months old, when the baby can stand.
Most cribs have three mattress levels:
    High: up to 6 months
Medium: when standing while holding rails
    Low: when baby starts walking

Footwear

  • What shoes should I choose for my baby?

Babies who cannot walk yet do not need shoes. Before about 8–9 months, shoes are mostly for protection from cold or sun.
Choose very soft shoes that do not restrict foot movement, such as leather booties or soft shoes.

  • When should my baby start wearing shoes?

You can start putting shoes on your baby when they can stand independently, usually around 9 months or later, depending on the child.
When learning to walk, shoes can provide good support, but allow plenty of barefoot time indoors to strengthen their feet.

  • What shoes should I choose for a baby who is learning to walk?

The first walking shoes should support their tiny feet.
Soft leather shoes with flexible, non-slip soles are ideal.
Shoes with Velcro straps are convenient for easy on/off.

  • What shoes are best for a crawling baby?

Most soft leather booties have a reinforced toe to protect feet while crawling.
Easy to put on, soft leather shoes protect little feet during play and crawling.
Leather is comfortable and breathable, allowing freedom of movement.

  • How to measure my baby’s shoe size?

You can measure the foot using a baby foot gauge or with paper:
Place the baby’s foot on a sheet of paper.
Ensure the child is standing upright.
Draw a line at the heel and another at the tip of the longest toe.
Measure the distance between the two lines to get the foot length in centimetres.
Use our size guide to choose the correct shoe size.
